Medicare & Medicaid Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Programs

The payouts for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs begin this year.  Key highlights include:

Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program: 

• Eligible professionals can earn up to $44,000 over a five-year period
• No minimum percentage of Medicare patients required
• EHR technology must be certified

Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program:

• Eligible professionals can earn up to $63,750 over a six-year period
• Must have a minimum of 30% Medicaid patient volume
• Program begins as early as 2011 depending on the state; registration opened for Michigan on January 3
