I volunteer at the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) Saturday and Sunday mornings. I first got involved because of my passion for animals, and I wanted to give back to the community I lived in.
I did some research and found GPAAS, a no-kill shelter in my neighborhood. I started volunteering, feeding the dogs, doing laundry, washing dishes, and making sure the dog and cat rooms were stocked with supplies. Over time, I saw that the staff and volunteers at GPAAS truly cared about the animals and would do anything in their power to help them regardless of the financial cost.
I started volunteering more, helping to clean the kitten and cat rooms, socializing the kittens, taking dogs for walks, and attending adoption events. Recently, I was asked to serve on the organization’s fundraising committee. I’ve been a volunteer for one year, and even though it is a time commitment, I love volunteering because it feels good to give back. I highly encourage everyone to find something they’re passionate about and donate their time. There are so many great organizations out there that need us.
I give because I want to spend my time serving causes that I am passionate about.
