Over 85 years ago, a father and son joined in a partnership in Saginaw, Michigan, that would become the cornerstone of a public accounting practice that today is among the leading firms in the nation. James J. Yeo and his son, W.L. Yeo, were later joined by Lloyd Yeo. The three generations of the Yeo family shaped the firm’s reputation for integrity and personalized service.
From the 1960s through the 1990s, several new Yeo & Yeo offices were established: Alma (1961), Marlette (1962; closed in 2011), Flint (1973) and Midland (1977). The Lansing office opened in 1979, followed by the Kalamazoo office in 1982. The Ann Arbor office opened in 1998 and the Auburn Hills office opened in 2012.
In 1994, Yeo & Yeo Financial Services, Inc. was established to offer retirement, insurance and investment services.
Recognizing the need to offer computer consulting services to clients, in 1997 Yeo & Yeo Computer Consulting, LLC became a separate entity of the firm. Located in the Saginaw office, the affiliate provides hardware, software, networking, and training.
In 1998 the firm expanded its services to include the expertise of a medical practice management consultant and full medical billing capabilities under the name Affiliated Medical Billing, LLC.
Other significant events in the firm’s history include:
1999 marked the first year that Yeo & Yeo was listed among the country’s 100 largest public accounting firms.
In 2000 Yeo & Yeo joined The Leading Edge Alliance, a worldwide network of major independently owned accounting/consulting firms.
On May 25, 2008, Lloyd J. Yeo, the third generation of the Yeo family and the last Yeo partner, passed away.
Today, nearly 200 employees in offices throughout Michigan take pride in the firm’s reputation for personal service, commitment to clients and community support.
The Yeo Name – Honorable Service
As legend has it . . .
“My great grandfather, Thomas Yeo, came to the Americas from England in the late 1800s. I understand that his name, Yeoman, was shortened at Ellis Island to Yeo. One of the English meanings of yeoman is an official providing honorable service in a noble household.
What the specific service our family provided, I never explored. Thomas Yeo settled in St. Thomas, Ontario, and had two sons, William T. and James L. Yeo. James, my grandfather, moved to Saginaw in the early 1900s and started the firm in 1923. Now you know ... the rest of the story!”
- Lloyd J. Yeo
Whatever our specific role is, let’s “Treat everyone like nobility …”
